Inception of Our Partnership

Sir William Borlase School Sport Partnership

Sir William Borlase SSP was the last School Sport Partnership to be formed in Buckinghamshire ( Phase 10 ). It has had to fit around the other Wycombe SSP, Wye Valley which was the first to be formed in Bucks. This accounts for the geography of the SSP; as it stretches from Stokenchurch to Marlow to central Wycombe and out to Hazlemere. There are two Grammar Schools and three Secondary Schools in the SSP. Facilities are somewhat limited in the area, with only two Sportshalls in schools and no floodlit areas. There are two strong dance Departments in the SSP both with theatres.

We have no Sports College within the SSP but Sir William Borlase is the hubsite, and this is a Performing Arts College. We have one PDM at Borlase; 5 SSCos positioned in each of the secondary schools, and a FESCo from Wycombe and Amersham FE college as part of the team. There are 23 PLTs in primary schools, some of whom are Headteachers. We have currently 18 coaches working for the Partnership.

The SSP is represented on the PESSYP group which meets to discuss PE matters in the County. The PDM represents the SSP on the local SPN group where local community sport is discussed, and at County PDM meetings.

Partners include the County Sport Partnership, Impact Sport coaching, Local golf clubs, Leisure Providers, Wasps Community Rugby, Longridge Outdoor Centre, Wycombe Wanderers Community Football ; other local sports clubs.

The SSP is working towards the ‘Five Hour Offer’ which means that all Young People are able to access 5 hours of PE and Sport per week. We are developing new coaches, forging new links with community sport, working with local leisure providers, developing and increasing numbers of our Sport leaders through a Leadership Academy. All schools are being encouraged to

run extra clubs through the Coaching funding, Big Lottery and Sport Unlimited funding so trying to provide opportunities for sport for all age groups.

Competition is an area which is also important to us. We need to increase the numbers of Young People competing regularly at school ; within groups at school; and representing their school; and are making improvements here.

We provide an opportunity for 120 pupils who are talented in Sport in Year 6 and 7 to attend a Multi Skills Academy during the Easter Holidays .

We are working to improve the quality of PE and school sport. We provide an extensive CPD programme for Primary teachers, and through County links for Secondary teachers also.
